Learning Support In Schools

Many of RLB's offices have links with local primary and secondary schools and carry out a range of volunteering activities. This is an example of one such scheme, designed to help children leave a legacy in their local area and educating them about the dangers of playing near building sites.

In 2009 we joined forces with housing association Aspire Housing, with Mansell Construction, to deliver two primary care centres in North Staffordshire in projects that also saw the bringing together of local school children and residents from a sheltered housing scheme.

The £12.5m Mill Rise development, which got underway in December 2007, includes a two-storey primary care centre with three GP practices and a pharmacy provided for NHS North Staffordshire. There are also 60 extra-care apartments, a hairdressers, coffee shop, laundry, restaurant and gardens.

Children from Knutton St Mary's Primary School nearby were invited to the site to show them the work being carried out and to tell them about the potential dangers of building sites.

The children made a time capsule and buried it in the garden. They also performed a carol service at a sheltered housing scheme in front of the local vicar and potential residents of Mill Rise.

Andrea Peak, Project Manager at the Manchester office of Rider Levett Bucknall, said "the schemes showed RLB's commitment to working closely with local communities wherever the Firm does business. The two developments will make a big difference to the local communities, and bringing to together residents and school children is an excellent way of promoting community spirit."
