Our Charities

We have a formal policy on charitable giving - approximately 5% of net profit goes to charity.

As part of our Charities and Community Policy, Rider Levett Bucknall is committed to playing an active role in supporting charitable and other community activities. All such initiatives are co-ordinated through the Rider Levett Bucknall Serious Partners in Community and Education (S.P.I.C.E.) programme. This programme encourages employees to become involved in events and activities and to provide assistance and support in kind. All events and activities are chaired by the Charities and Community Policy Co-ordinator.

This year we are supporting a number of charities.

We regularly undertake pro bono work to kick start social and arts projects and are currently involved in projects associated with the Caribbean Typhoon and Asian Tsunami Disasters. We recognise that such disasters impact widely on our communities in Britain.

Our offices also carry out local one-off fund raising events. Recent events include:

  • a team of 6 employees competing in the 3 Peaks Challenge
  • a nationally coordinated response to the 2005 "Children in Need" appeal
  • us acting as organiser for the 2006 "Access The World" charity ball to raise funds for the Pell Hall School for children with disability.

Payroll giving is encouraged across the company to charities of employees' choice - all employees can set up their charitable donations via payroll link to the Charities Aid Foundation.

Our Chairman, David Bucknall is also chairman of the Birmingham Foundation Charity established to give long term, sustainable support to community development, which RLB supports both financially and in gifting time and facilities.

Our CEO, Lance Taylor, is a founder of 'Access the World' a charity set up as a vehicle to facilitate all of RLB's charitable initiatives

At the discretion of the Line Manager, RLB employees participating in private charitable work can receive up to a week's full pay.

Last year 80 permanent employees have undertaken voluntary charitable activities. A few examples of such charitable work are as follows:

  • An employee was given one week to climb Mount Elgon to raise money in support of Uganda Women's Concern Ministry (UWCM) in support of women and family affected by AIDS in the Mbale Elgon region of Uganda.
  • An employee was given time off work to undertake a long walk in Machu Picchu in Peru to raise money for Home Farm Trust Limited (HFT) for over 1000 adults with learning difficulties in either supported living, registered care homes, supported employment and day services.
  • Our Operations Director and 2 Partners took time off work to assist with painting and general site work in support of the 2007 Children in Need.

We have strong links and regularly support the Chartered Surveying Training Trust to help with assessment days targeting students from underprivileged areas and to arrange sponsorship for a career in construction.

RLB are members of Business In The Community and Prohelp. These are business networks giving professional expertise to communities. An example of a recent project with Prohelp was the refurbishment of a community centre in Acocks Green used by a local scout group where RLB volunteers gave a mixture of work time and personal time to help deliver the scheme for the benefit of the local community.
